Cisco intern becomes famous for his rap
How about we wrap up the week with a story about having a little fun? A guy named Greg Justice has become a YouTube star with his “I am the World’s Most Interesting Intern” series of rap videos. His success has inspired dozens of other interns and 20-somethings within Cisco to produce their own rap videos about their jobs. While some Cisco Subnet readers have weighed in unfavorably about the videos (and Cisco’s work culture) others are enjoying the situation. Take a look and a listen and share your thoughts Cisco CCNA Training.

* It’s Time to Start Loving Tunnels by Michael Morris
* I wrote a blog two years ago about how I could fix anything with a tunnel. Yes, it was a tad tongue in cheek, but it also had some truth to it. Tunnels are a weapon to use when faced with a difficult network design issue. However, as with any weapon, there can be collateral damage. Tunnels have proven to sometimes cost more than they are worth when they introduce sub-optimal routing, MTU issues, and hardware/software scalability issues. Given these problems, most network engineers shied…

* IPv6 Enabled Web Browsers by Scott Hogg
* One way to get your browser to navigate to an IPv6-capable web site is to simply enter the IPv6 address of the web server into the browser’s address bar. IETF RFC 2732, Format for Literal IPv6 Addresses in URL’s, which is updated by IETF RFC 3986, Uniform Resource Identifier (URI): Generic Syntax, defines the syntax that should be used when entering an IPv6 address directly. The format typically looks something like https://[2001:db8:100:200::1234]/. I have to admit that this is painful and… 2

* Cisco Content Delivery System open to attack by Jim Duffy

The product’s Internet Streamer application has a vulnerability that could allow an attacker to read files arbitrarily on the device. An unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability to access password files and system logs, the advisory states. The Internet Streamer application provides edge caching, content streaming, and downloads to subscriber IP devices such as PCs. Specifically, Cisco…

* Cisco study warns against “FarmVille” by Jim Duffy
* If your employees are playing popular Facebook games at work – and undoubtedly, some of them are – they are opening up malware avenues for hackers and cybercriminals, according to Cisco. This is just one of the findings of a midyear security report delivered by Cisco this week that reiterated earlier conclusions on social media, virtualization, cloud computing and mobile device use are opening up new security threats in the enterprise.Cisco found that 7% of a global sample of users accessing… 10

* Dell Warns of Malicious Code on Server Motherboards by Jon Oltsik
* A recent Network World article stated that Dell is warning customers that a small number of PowerEdge server motherboards sent out through service dispatches may contain malware. Here is a link to the article in question: https://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/072110-dell-warns-of-malware-on.html?hpg1=bn Dell is doing the right thing by alerting potentially impacted customers but questions remain: 1. How did the malware get there? 2. Were the motherboards assembled in a certain… 1

* Does the Reputation of CCIE Drive the Popularity of All Cisco Certs? by Wendell Odom
* Does the good reputation of CCIE have an impact on people’s choice to pursue their first Cisco cert? And if so, did the published CCIE stats have any impact on your perception of CCIE? Today I’ll explore this one topic, and also wrap up the answers I gathered at Networkers this year to a variety of Cisco certification questions. First, let me tackle the list of questions. This post is essentially part 3 of 3 discussing the questions we gathered back in this blog post in early June. A final… 27

* Consider the Consensus Audit Guidelines (CAG) by Jon Oltsik
* As a federal government watcher, I get exposed to some happenings in Washington that few outsiders know about. One such initiative is the Consensus Audit Guidelines (CAG). Simply stated, CAG applies the old 80%/20% rule to cybersecurity best practices by focusing on 20 high priority security controls. Since these controls are specifically designed as countermeasures for the most likely types of real-world attacks. There are two primary knocks against CAG. First, many people believe…

* Innovations – something I love in networking… by Douglas Gourlay
* Sadly I do not think there has been a lot of innovation in networking in recent memory that has really helped the networking professional to be more effective and efficient in their job. I would actually endeavor to say that in the past years many of the new capabilities and features have actually made the job of maintaining a network harder, not easier. How is this possible? I mean in the hey-day growth cycle of networking in the mid 1990’s the main features and capabilities that we… 1
