We love the Viewty! The combination of a screen touch UI with the latest technology, the Viewty ticks almost all the boxes: 5 megapixel camera, a camera, 3G video calling, high quality video, MP3 player, FM radio, HSDPA for speeds of broadband Internet and bags of memory, this is one of the best phones from LG. Available in black, silver, purple and pink.
The LG Viewty was one of the first touchscreen phones to be released. At the time of release was much higher than most other phones, and has remained a favorite ever since. Originally a very expensive device, the Viewty is now priced as a mid-range phone and excellent value for money. I originally received the Viewty 5 stars, and now in July 2009, we are downgrading to 4 stars to reflect the fact that 18 months is too long in the mobile world and you can now get the touch screen phones with more advanced features such as GPS. To be honest, however, that almost the only thing missing!

The Viewty is basically a souped LG Prada without the designer logo, and is a very accomplished. We loved the touch user interface of the Prada and the Viewty retains the best features of the Prada, but with the addition of 3G, a 5 megapixel camera, enhanced video camera, more memory and longer battery life.
For the benefit of those who have not used a touchscreen phone, let’s recap the touchscreen concept. Not to be confused with touch-sensitive buttons (eg the LG Chocolate or Samsung U600), the Viewty has a touch screen. This means that the icons and menus on the screen itself, and touch the screen to activate the “buttons.” The Viewty uses subtle vibration to confirm whether you’ve pressed a button, and you’ll very quickly get used to the idea. There are real buttons below the screen to make and end calls, a wheel, and side buttons for volume control, camera and music player. We liked the touchscreen interface very much, and the technology now seems to be mature enough for touchscreens to enter the mainstream. If you are a fast texter you might find that the touchscreen slows you down a bit, but the sheer pleasure of using on-screen menus more than compensates for this. T9 predictive text is supported too. A needle is provided if you find the interface too slow with your finger. The Viewty also supports handwriting recognition, so you should be able to find an input method you feel comfortable.
Apart from the user interface, the Viewty has several pleasures to be discovered. The camera has a capacity of 5 megapixels with a high quality lens Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus and a SmartLight feature that makes the pictures at night much clearer. It can also vary the ISO setting ISO 800 for improved brightness in low light. Like many digital cameras, camera Viewty has a built-in image stabilization to minimize camera shake. The Viewty can not match the best camera phones from Nokia or Sony Ericsson, but it definitely ranks as a good camera phone. And the first-class camera, video camera Viewty is also something special. It films in high resolution (320 x 240 pixels QVGA) and a high frame rate – up to 120 frames per second, which allows special effects like slow motion filming. There are built in image editing and video editing tools to make the most of these cameras. In addition, a second front-facing camera enables 3G video calls.
The Viewty’s music player nice and easy to use and can handle virtually any music format: MP3/AAC/AAC + / AAC + + / WMA. There is also an FM radio built in. Stereo headphones are supplied in the box, and can use optional mono or stereo Bluetooth headset, if you prefer. The Viewty’s memory is generous, with 90 Mbytes of internal memory and up to 2 Gbytes of additional memory (microSD memory card).
We have already mentioned that the Viewty is a 3G phone. In fact, 3. 5G, ie it supports extra fast 3G connections with HSDPA which enables download speeds up to 3.6 Mbps, Bluetooth and USB connectivity are available, and a USB cable is included in the box. The Viewty supports web browsing and email, and there is a useful document viewer that can handle all common file formats (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF).
If we have to find a flaw in the Viewty it would be the battery. The large touch screen eats battery juice and, frankly, I can not believe the official figures of the life of the battery manufacturer. However, the Viewty is not worse than the original iPhone when it comes to battery life, and should not be a problem for most people.
